O'SULLIVAN V PARKES IN TIM FOLEY CUP FINAL.

At Templemartin on Saturday the youth of Denis O’Sullivan took on Eamy Bowen in a Tim Foley Cup sf, big odds going in this score O’Sullivan a two to one favourite, hence no stake, so confidant in there man, punters also gave the bowl of odds, however Bowen was not fazed by this as he gave it his all. Five each out to Slynes corner where the lead had changed on three occasions, Bowen was slightly ahead here. A powerful drive up to O’Riordan cottage for O’Sullivan gave him his first bit of daylight and he rose the bowl of odds with another shearing drive well up past Collins Wall, it must be said that Bowen played most of his bowls perfectly but got no run out of them. So ten and eleven shots to the School Cross, O’Sullivan still holding his bowl of odds here. Bowen down and around the Stonefield corner in two, O’Sullivan made a good effort to go in one but it just fell short of sight. O’Sullivans twelveth bowl was beautifully played and made Buttimers entrance. O’Sullivan had big odds with the bowl here, however Bowen wasn’t giving up. Bowen down to the Monument and two more to the Cross where it was an even bowl. Both missed the line from here in two, but all the money was on the bowl and Bowen let rip a super last shot that saved the bowl of odds, but it is O’Sullivan who progresses to the final where he will play Wayne Parkes.

O'DRISCOLL TAKES E FINAL.

Mid Cork also hosted their Novice E final at Castletown, in opposition here we had Darren O’Driscoll playing Peter Walsh, this final was played from the village out. O’Driscoll got two great opening bowls to have a bowl of odds at the first line, Walsh reeled him in with two great bowls to Pegs Corner and out the Triangle they were level bowling. Down the Enniskeane straight Walsh took his first lead with a super eight shot, However his lead was short lived as O’Driscoll played a perfect tenth down past the Hollies and won back the lead that he would relinquish no more and he powered on to Lordans Cross in three more to win by a big bowl of odds.

In Macroom a Junior ladies semi final was played between Kay Kelly North Cork alas Kathleen Cooney a very prominent bowler playing Triona Murphy from the Carbery division, Kelly held a marginal lead of thirty meters for three quarters of this score but two great bowls from Murphy to Denny Paul's entrance and onto the layby where she took the lead by 3mt. Kelly was extremely lucky with her second last, it was very right but picked back nicely for her short of the line and won back the lead for the last shots. Murphy gave her last everything but misplaced it and Kelly was left with nothing to beat, she now plays Marie Russell in the final.

O'DRISCOLL THROUGH TO DESMOND CUP FINAL

An exciting and well contested Jerry Desmond Cup semi-final score was held at Fishers Cross for a total stake of 4000 between Johnny O’Driscoll, Clonakilty and Noel O’Donovan, Crossbarry. O’Driscoll twenty five meters ahead after three and out level at Footmans Cross in five each. After three more down the straight past O’Sullivans Bungalow O’Donovan took the lead by thirty meters. Two more great bowls down to the Galley Cross only one meter separated them. Three more to the top of the hill sight of the line O’Driscoll slightly fore, O’Donovan took the lead for the last shot but it was O’Driscoll who put down the better bowl and won out in a pulsating contest.

MURPHY TAKES SECOND SEMI-FINAL AT TEMPLEMARTIN

The second of a Jun-B 9-man tournament score took place at Templemartin, Kenneth Murphy v Shane Collins v Donie Harnedy. Harnedy took the first shot and Murphy the next four out Slynes corner where he had almost a bowl on Collins and threw big odds on Harnedy. Another well played bowl from Murphy raised the bowl on Collins and just short of it on Harnedy. Collins got a great eight shot that Murphy missed, all three back in the score again. Murphy opened up here again with a super bowl to O’Riordan Cottage where he raised the bowl on Collins again and had twenty meters on Harnedy, good bowls from Collins and Harnedy here saw both take the lead on Murphy. Harnedy now took on the score with a super bowl halfway to the School Cross. Twelve shots each to the School Cross Harnedy just ahead of Murphy and Collins back in third position by five meters. All went down to the Stonefield bend in two each where Murphy was back ahead, all past Buttimers with their fifteenth, Harnedy made a bold bid with his last but it was not enough to hold off Murphy with Collins back in third place.

YOUNG LETS THIS ONE SLIP.

Shannonvale completed their intermediate tournament, in opposition here we had Wayne Parkes taking on Tim Young for a total stake of 15,100. It was Parkes who had the advantage up to the Quarry Bend where he led by forty meters, two more each up past Buttimers pillars where Young had a fifteen meter advantage, a bad blunder here from Parkes and he was down a bowl at Desmond's Cross both out in seven and eight shots. Two more great bowls each to Sams, Young marginally fore here, two more down to the Palms Young still ahead bt twenty meters, Parkes got a splendid bowl here all the way to Campbells Lane, Young missed sight in at Hayes Cottage and missed tip again Parkes back in front, Young produced one of those special ones and suddenly there was nothing between them, Young got a massive second last shot and had a hundred meters for the last shot, Parkes beat the line but it was a very beatable tip for Young but he missed it by the narrowest of margins.
