MURPHY SNATCHES VICTORY IN NORTH EAST FINAL The North East Junior A final could not be classed as high standard for the grade but it kept the spectators entertained to the last shot. TOM O'Donovan from Crossbarry took the Vintage C title at Timoleague, overcoming John Twohig and DD Carrollin a three-way contest for stakes of 3x 950 a-side. O’ Donovan got off to a dream start with a huge opener to the sheds and raised a bowl on both opponents with another impressive second shot. He held and extended his advantage with two more to the Guard's house, where he had a comfortable lead of two bowls on Carroll and one on Twohig - excellent bowling at this grade.

DALY THROUGH TO DAN RIORDAN CUP FINAL There was no joy for Bandon bowler James O'Donovan who lost his Dan riordan cup semi-finalagainst Gary Daly at Bantry. Playing for a total stake of €17,600. O’Donovan had one of those off days where nothing ran right for him. At McSweeney’s farm in four shots Daly had almost a bowl of odds. After three more through Casey’s Cross Daly held a seventy meter advantage. A poor effort from O’Donovan when he missed Cronin’s bend with his eight.

Andrew O’Callaghan opened the new Paddy Murray Memorial Cup with a narrow victory over Conor Creedon at Ballygurteen, winning by one bowl of odds after a tense finish. John O’Rourke claimed the long-delayed Hancy Hubbard Cup at Beal Na Marbh, dominating John Young throughout.
