Twohig through to Desmond Cup Final

A Jerry Desmond Cup semi-final was played at Shannonvale between Gavin Twohig and Michael John O’Brien, playing for a stake of €1,500 a-side. O’Brien took the first two shots to Cleary’s but Twohig took the third and would be led no more. Three more around the quarry bend where he extended his odds. Nine and ten out to Desmonds bend where Twohig was throwing his odds over thirty five meters, Twohig got a great bowl to the top of the hill, O’Brien missed this to fall a bowl down. O’Brien went to the end of Kingston’s wall in two more but Twohig was still throwing his odds with a bowl. Twohig held this odds back of Tobin’s, both players missed sight but Twohig still had a bowl and forty meters at Hayes’s Cottage. O’Brien’s sixteenth was desperately unlucky to pick in left no sight. Twohig made back of Campbell’s lane and O’Brien went to the upper side. Twohig got a good bowl to Laura’s House and will now play Johnny O’Driscoll in the Final at Grange.

Alan Long made the long trip from Drogheda to play Declan O’Leary in the novice veteran preliminary round at Ballincurrig playing for a stake of €400 as. Two shots each to Moore’s gate, Long fore bowl. At the end of the bank before the green Long was still fore bowl by thirty meters. Long got two more good bowls to the Pony gate, and O’Leary missed the no-play line with his seventh, Long went a bowl of odds up and took this to the acre. O’Leary got 2 super bowls up the long straight that knocked Long’s odds back to one meter. At Leahy’s in twelve each Longs odds was twenty five meters and he had a chance of making sight at the big corner. Both failed to go sight and Long was still keeping his nose in front, if only just. O’Leary took his first lead of the score when he went onto the short straight, he held the lead in two more to Din Tough’s. With the line approaching O’Leary beat a big bowl from Long to the sycamores. Long just beat the finish line and O’Leary beat this tip to set up his next round score against Jimmy Collins from Carbery at Terelton.

In that score Jimmy Collins had his only fore bowl of the score when he beat Declan O'Leary by the last shot to reach the semi-final stages of the novice veteran championship.

Ned Delaney (East) beat Brian Harrington (Car) in the boy’s U-16 at Castletown. Méabh Cuinnea added the Carbery U-16 to her previously won U-18 championship when she beat Lauren McCarthy @ The Marsh Road. Jack Allen won his U-16 QF score from Eoghan Hickey at Grange. John Cahalane progressed to the final of the Carbery junior C with a last shot win over Kevin Minihane at Caharagh, playing for €700 a-side. John Linehane won the City novice C final from Gearoid Spillane at Paddo’s playing for €900 a-side. Robyn O’Brien took the Gaeltacht U-14 from Sheila Bradley at Baile Bhuirne.
